The essential accountabilities of the veterans service office include but are not limited to:

Advise clients regarding state and federal benefits and claim decisions by appropriate boards, agencies, and courts

Explain laws, regulations, and codes that affect veterans, explain veterans rights, responsibilities

Claim documentation

Researches applicable state and federal laws, regulations, codes, and court decisions to develop effective arguments for benefit claims

Assists clients in completing forms, obtaining documentation, and performs analysis of claims and decisions by federal and state veteran administrations.

Compile personal information and assesses merits of benefit claims and applicability of information to claims

Counsels and advises clients regarding financial and educational assistance, medical services, emergency shelter, vocational adjustment, mental health service, and mortuary affairs

Interview clients regarding their financial, social, military, and psychological history and status
